Education Abroad Program Types
The Education Abroad & Exchange Office has five program types (in more than 50 countries). From international exchanges to internships through our affiliated providers, take the time to learn more about each program type before choosing the program that's right for you.Faculty-Led Programs
UNC faculty member(s) will take a group of students overseas for a 3-6 week faculty-led program, which typically focuses on a particular topic, language, or an interdisciplinary understanding of an issue. Field trips and cultural activities are used to enhance learning. Programs range from 0-6 credits.International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP)
ISEP is a consortium of more than 330 institutions in more than 50 countries. UNC students have the opportunity to participate in two types of ISEP programs:
Affiliated Programs
UNC has approved study abroad, or "affiliated", providers. These organizations specialize in the creation and administration of study abroad programs. Providers offer programs for semester and academic year, as well as summer programs ranging from 3 to 8 weeks.Exchange Partner Schools
UNC has exchange agreements with 15 international institutions across Europe and Asia. Many of our partner schools offer affordable study abroad options for students from all UNC majors. These types of programs are an especially good fit for students who receive UNC merit or need awards.Other International Opportunities
